What does “going the extra heat (mile)” mean to you and what motivates you to go the extra heat in your role?
For me, “going the extra heat” means never settling for anything less than exceptional. I always aim for the best in everything I do. I strive for the best possible outcome I can, because I take pride in my work and want those around me and my company to be proud of it too. I like the feeling when I hear a “Good job Lance, amazing!” or “Excellent work Lance”. It’s important to me that my efforts reflect my commitment to always aiming higher.
What motivates me is the desire not to disappoint my higher-ups and colleagues. I want to contribute in a way that makes them proud of me and my work. On a more personal level, my dad is also someone that motivates me, he is my role model, especially when it comes to my career. Right now, he’s the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO, Head of Cyber Security) at the largest telecommunications company here in the Philippines, and I’ve always admired his career path. Watching him succeed has inspired me to follow in his footsteps and build a career that reflects my hard work, efforts, dedication, and success.
At this point in my life, having only turned 23, making both my parents proud is one of my biggest driving forces. Their support has been unconditional, and I want to honor that by giving my best effort in everything I do. These factors are what push me to go the “extra heat” every day.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Mayerton team?
What I enjoy most about being part of the Mayerton team is how kind, caring, and helpful everyone is. My colleagues, manager, and higher-ups are always willing to guide me and take me under their wing. Whenever I have questions, they’re eager to answer them, and if I need help with a task, they provide clear and detailed instructions for me to complete it successfully. Most of all, what makes me happy is that they’re genuinely proud when I succeed and aren’t shy about offering compliments on my outputs and work ethic. Overall, the team and work environment here at Mayerton are truly great. : )
What advice would you give to others who want to make a difference in their roles? How do you think your efforts make a difference to our customers or team?
For me, I think the best advice I can give is to develop a positive mindset. While I’ve been at Mayerton, a lot of the compliments I’ve received have been about my work ethic and the way I think. I always look forward to getting a new task or project because it makes me feel needed, and that makes me proud knowing that I always produce high quality work.
It’s hard to explain, but no matter what I’m going through, I’m known for always trying to find the brighter side and put a positive spin on things. Got assigned a tough project? That just means my manager or higher-ups trust me and believe in the quality of my work. Made a small mistake on of my tasks? I see it as a chance to learn and grow from it. This way of thinking helps me produce good work and keeps me always aiming higher.
I also think my positive attitude helps brighten the atmosphere when I’m working with my manager, colleagues, or anyone else. I think this makes a big difference, when we work in a happier state and space, I think we produce better quality work, or at least that’s what I think. Sure, not everything can be positive, but it’s better to focus on the good than dwell on the bad. That’s how you have a great workday – or even just a good day in general.
